The Beef Task Force was established on 5 June 2005 at the Planning and Management Meeting of the EAAP Cattle Network Working Group, held in the context of the 56th Annual Meeting of the European Association for Animal Production. 

  The Beef Task Force aims to monitor developments in the European beef sector and propose actions to the EAAP Cattle Network WG.

The first meeting of the Beef Task Force was held on 25-26 November 2005 in Paris, at the French Livestock Institute. The purpose of the meeting was to determine the specific nature and objectives of the Task Force and to explore the current status of beef production systems in the European Union after the CAP reform. Each speaker presented the tools and methods used in his country to analyse the impact of CAP on beef systems, as well as the results obtained by the analysis. A comprehensive picture of the beef sector in the major EU countries was thus drawn. The second part of the discussion focused on the possibility to jointly design projects aiming to contribute to the comparison and common evaluation of systems, strategies and policies in the beef sector, in the context of the new CAP and the changing international environment.

The meeting was judged a success by all participants, who have explicitly declared themselves willing to co-operate actively for the purposes of the Beef Task Force.
